The Original Great Southern Brevet

Sunday 17 January 2016

Sightseeing conditions 2 out of 10, riding conditions 8 out of 10

Well a new day has dawned on the Great Southern Brevet 2016 and it is again overcast and cool.  Makes for excellent riding conditions but the morning mist isn't burning off so the views are a little on the short side.

Last night was a busy night for Top Hut at the head of the West Branch of the Manuherikia River. With the first group calling it a day at around 8:30 pm, riders continued to pour in until after midnight. 20+ riders enjoyed the relative comforts of the hut (relative that is if you scored a bunk while the rest enjoyed the tussock outside).

Room at the Inn? Top Hut in the Manuherikia

Dibs on the bottom bunk!

A few late txts and then the early risers checking in:

Thanks. We have decided to continue on. We'll probably stop and camp before the saddle.
